In Room 3 today we examined density and learnt about how some items can be less dense or more dense than water.
Firstly, we looked at 'What is density?'. After a brief discussion we realised that we knew nothing about density. So it was time to look at an experiment.
We began by looking at what materials we required. We had a container filled with water. Molly had used a bucket to fill up the large white container in our class. The other materials we used was a can of Coke and a can of Coke Zero. The cans were full and were both 355mL.
In our topic books we wrote our hypothesis and what we thought would happen. We then needed to conduct the experiment to see if our hypothesis was correct.
The next step we had to do was place each can in the container of water. From this point we needed to observe and record our results.

The container filled with water. |

Our experiment uses Coke and Coke Zero |
|
Placing the can of Coke in the water. What is happening to the Coke can? |
|
It sunk. Well, what will happen to the Coke Zero can then? |
|
We then proceeded by placing the Coke Zero can in the container of water. |
|
The Coke Zero can floated. How come? |
|
We tested other cans as well to see what would sink and float. |
After our experiments, we recorded our results in our topic books and wrote our conclusions.
