Brush With the Dark Side

I wrote about what I thought Jeremy would sound like if he was real and then recorded my voice. I also thought about what he would tell us about the story. I hope you enjoy.

Nothing Like A Good Book - Reading

Looking for Work

I am sharing the voice of Mea who is looking for a job. In the story she has  a special gift which is walking through walls. She doesn't get the job because Mr Grimly thought it was impossible to walk through walls and did not want a freaky girl working in his office.

I hope you like my interpretation of Mea.

Watching Maddie - Reading

I was pretending to be Maddie, she couldn't get water from the basin so she got it from the toilet. Her father was watching golf and  he drank the tea from Maddie as she gave it to him. Heaps and heaps of tea.
This is what I thought Maddie would sound like after her father found out the water came from the TOILET!

Fantastic

Reading: Time For A Nap

This was a poem that Ellie created for one of her reading activities for the story 'Time for a Nap'.

A dog was tired and decided to walk,
walk far away from the kids that talk,
they talk all day and they talk all night,
leaving this dog in a horrible sight.
Well done Ellie on a well crafted poem. It shows great understanding of the text you have been reading. Keep up the good work.

Technology - Bridges

Today, Miss Matson started teaching the children about bridges. This is for technology and will be taught in the afternoon.
Children were placed in to groups and brainstormed ideas about the uses of bridges, what are the different purposes and what do they look like? The brainstorm is to access the childrens prior knowledge - What they know? What they don't know?

This is work from Molly. She has some great ideas and is working towards ensuring proper nouns have capital letters. Hope you enjoy reading some of her work.

Earthquake by Emma H

“AARGH”, I screamed as the ground shook and shook and shook like mad.  It was an earthquake.
It was lunchtime. I had just put my lunch away, grabbed my bag and now here I am buttoning up my school shirt with my shorts on but then it happened. I continued buttoning up my school shirt then sprinted outside. I see my teacher Mr Shea jump outside the door as all the children start heading towards the basketball court.
As soon as we arrive there we sit down in our class lines as the roll call starts to get called out, name after name we finally finish. A few people start crying including me hoping that our family and friends were okay. I looked at the concrete floor, there on the floor lay hundreds of cracks all through the ground and out those cracks liquefaction comes running out of the ground. I look at the field and see all this liquefaction come bursting out the soil like volcanoes.
As everyone sat freezing cold as the breeze brushed across people’s faces. I went over to my cousin Molly to see if she was alright. Then I went over to Blythe and she looked after me. After a while Blythe started randomly saying the Our Father. She said it hundreds of times. I went back to my friends and just sat with them.
After about 1 hour and 20 minutes my Dad cycled from Ferrymead  to come and get me.  He had to stay at his work for a while to help clean up a bit and wasn’t allowed to go straight away. I asked him where my Mum, my brother and my little sister were. I was upset when he told me because they were all up in the top floor of the museum and my little brother got hit by a little bit of glass from the roof.
A while later my mum arrived with the car to pick us up. She took quite a long time because there was a lot of traffic in town. I said goodbye to my friends then headed home.
A while later my mum arrived with the car to pick up me and my dad. As soon I saw her I sprinted and gave her a big hug. I was happy to see my brother and sister, and gave them a kiss on their heads. We hoped in the car and drove home, and we were glad to be reunited.

The Challenge by James

Huuugh huuugh, go James, go James. I have just entered the challenge of death. I have to climb this 7 meter climbing wall, I needed to force myself up there, my supporters really gave me a boost. There were so many memorable moments like when there was only one way up, but… you had to grab onto this tiny peace of rock fake of course because remember this isn’t real climbing.
I’m just at camp this is the climbing wall activity, anyway it was so hard to cling onto I nearly fell of!!! But I agreed I wouldn’t fall of for anything unless I won an unlimited amount of sweets & chocolate =).But enough about that.
Ohhh then there was also the time when I had too get up this mega big stump, that was epic. Sorry back to the story, so I was pulling so hard with my bilayers watching my every move like a night guard watching the exhibits. I’m nearly there, nearly there I made it.
Wahoo! I made it! Okay, I made it well any way at the top there is this big black bar as I put both hands onto it everybody burst into cheers I felt very proud of my self. Just remember the climbing procedure
.Get your target
.Climb it (duhh)
.You’re the man (or woman)
And then when you’re done all you have to do is let go and your minions will do the rest for you, slowly lowering you to the ground. And for the rest of the day no body made it to the top, well

Except me

It's Friday

Maths: Probability

The children in the A Team have moved from Statistics to Probability. The children have had some fun activities using the computers to explore probability games and how probability can be uncertain.

Today, the children in Room 3 began learning about probability trees. This is a strategy to show the different outcomes.
This is an example of tossing two coins. The first time you toss a coin, you can either get a heads or tails. Tossing a coin 2 times, there are 4 possible outcomes. The children are learning to find the outcomes and then using fractions to find the probability. It is work in progress.

At this time I would like to give you these websites that have many fun probability games for your child to play.

No Longer Stranger's: First Impressions

Yesterday Room 3 began exploring the topic 'First Impressions' for our topic. The children looked at the Herman Grid. When looking at the grid grey dots appear however they are not really there. Explaining to the children that when we meet people, we can sometimes see grey areas on them and form our own first impression.
The children also looked at some optical illusions which are embedded below. See what you can find and ask your child for the answers.
Herman Grid

One part which was rather funny and unforeseen was when the children left the mat, they began asking each other 'What did you think when you first met me?' Some children remained quiet during these questions.

An area that the children found funny was watching the YouTube clips of Paul Potts and Susan Boyle. Explaining to the children that Paul Potts was in season 1 and Susam Boyle in season 2, they could not understand that the judges had not learnt that you can't judge people on first glance. Piper said it best, 'You can't judge a book by it's cover.'

Reading Activities - The Perfect Gift

Understanding THE PERFECT GIFT
Why was it good arrangement for the cat?

It’s because she had all she needed.

Quote: It was a good arrangement. The cat would wake up at 11o’clock sharp every morning, have breakfast then go for a morning snooze. Next came lunch, followed by a brisk ten meter walk to have an afternoon nap.

Was it good arrangement for the man?

No, because in the day all he did was work on the computer.

Quote: He would sit like for hours on end, motionless apart from his hands which would scuttle to and fro across the buttons like pale crabs.

Why did the cat have to move on?

It’s because it was nearly spring.

Quote: It was 3am and the man had flopped on the sofa and fallen fast asleep. The cat watched the sleeping man and thought things over. Spring was fast approaching and the days were getting longer it was time to move again.
