Religious Education: God Strand

Since Week 6, the Year 5 and 6 children have been learning about God - Te Atua, Io Matua Kore, The Almighty Father. The children have been learning about the covenants God made with Abraham and Sarah, as well as Moses. An important aspect of their learning is how we respond to God's call. We looked at the examples of St John Baptist de La Salle and Blessed Teresa of Calcutta. St John Baptist de La Salle established the La Salle Brothers and taught the under privileged in France. He used his inherited wealth to assist the poor in his community. Blessed Teresa aka Mother Teresa, helped the poor in Calcutta.

Recently in class, the children have been provided the teacher notes for each lesson,  and working in groups they are making their own activities. The children have been focused and are being challenged to respond to the call to explore and enhance their own faith.

Religious Education – Group Work

  • 1.   Read each lesson and think how you can show this learning in an activity.
  • 2.   Create the activity and show your learning in your exercise book.
  • 3.   Some of the exercises that they have such as the puzzle and shirt can be completed in to your books.
  • 4.   Work at your own pace but you must complete an activity for each lesson to show your learning.

Once an activity is completed for each lesson, you can complete an ICT activity to show your learning in the God Strand:
  • -         Toymation
  • -         Photo Stories
  • -         Short Movie
  • -         Jeopardy Gameshow on Computer

These have to be planned with a detailed story board.
Each person has to have a role.
One of the groups reading the Teacher Notes.

Another group, pen in hand noting the most important information to learn.
