In class Megan and her reading group have been reading a non-fiction text about Skunks. Megan completed this information web as one of her activities and published it on the ActivBoard. Great work Megan.

Some Exceptional Reading
As I went through the children's reading books I was impressed with a lot of their work. I have added some of the children's work for you to all have a look at. The children's work are Rhys, Madison and Molly.
The children showed some fantastic understanding of the stories they have read. Well done Rhys, Madison and Molly.

Toymation: Religious Education
In Room 3, we have been working through the Holy Spirit strand. The children have been learning about the different symbols of the Holy Spirit and what these symbols mean. More recently, the children have been learning about how tapu and mana can be increased or decreased. Then we linked this to how the Holy Spirit increases our tapu and mana.
To put this learning in to an authentic context, the children planned and created a toymation showing how the holy spirit works. This is a first demo of Finn St, William, Ricky and Lachlan.

Yes it's that time of year again where we're beginning to get under way for the planning of our Science Fair.
Across the syndicate we're taking part in a science interchange (every Wednesday for 5 weeks), exposing the students to a range of different science demonstrations and concepts. The aim of these sessions is to get the students excited about science, and expose them to fun hands-on experiments.
Science Fair:
This year we are giving the year 6's an option of working on either a 'Science Investigation' or a 'Science Demonstration', while the year 5's will work on a 'Science Demonstration'; a great way to introduce them to what happens in a science fair (and hopefully less stress on you at home).
More information will be coming home shortly, detailing a time line and explaining the requirements.
Things to think about now:
- Start looking at ideas for either a demonstration or investigation.
- Purchase a science demonstration board if you don't have one from previous years (approx $12 Paper Tree Tower Junction).
- Our School Science Fair will be taking place in Week 10 of this term.
- Demonstrations to be done as individuals, Investigations can be done individually or in pairs.
GUIDELINES: Note these will be further explained in class soon!

Science Fair Investigations (Same as 2011)
1. Catchy Title
2. Question with a purpose: Eg Question: What bread produces mould the fastest? Purpose: Which bread lasts the longest in the pantry?
3. Research – in diary
4. Hypothesis: Try to predict the answer to the problem
5. Procedure: includes a list of materials
6. Results: graphs, charts, tables, photos, facts
7. Conclusion: What you learned? So What?
- Log book:All your work is recorded in the log book. Your plans, workings, any research.
S
S Science Fair Demonstration:
- Explain the science behind the demonstration (information report)
- Procedure: Materials and steps
- Demonstration on display (where possible)
- Photo's of demonstration
- Explain why you chose this demonstration
- Fun facts relating to your demonstration
- Results
- Title
- Further questions you may have after the demonstration...what if I alter....
Please do not start your investigations or demonstrations until you have discussed it with your teacher!

Science
For the last 3 weeks we have been going to a differrent classroom on a Wednesday after lunch.
First we went to Room 4 to make ice-cream, it wasn't to bad then we went to Room 5 and learnt about the 3 rules of gravity. We also learnt about Issac Newton and how he discovered gravity.
We will go to Room 6 next and then Room 7. After that we will start science fair.

Buddy Writing: Air Jaws
This week the children in Room 3 have been learning about the great white sharks around Seal Island (False Bay, South Africa), that breach the water when attacking its prey. The children watched a short documentary last week to gain some information for their planning. This week the children worked with their buddy to brainstorm 4 facts from the documentary and then to write an information report on 'Air Jaws'. These stories will be published in the weekend. Here are some images that the children saw.

Gustave the Crocodile: Buddy Writing
The children in Room 3 have been working in buddies to write their information reports. This involve the children taking turns being the teacher and helping their partner process their thoughts before writing. The roles change regularly so the children maintain the same pace in their work.
An important part in Buddy Writing is before a sentence is written, the student says the sentence to their teacher, the teacher repeats the sentence and asks 'Is this the sentence you would like to write?' The student then can either change the sentence or write it down in their book with the teacher repeating the sentence slowly to help remember their thoughts. Some of the children's stories are attached above. I have been strict on the children working through their story to edit and make changes. One area we are still developing is our capital letters, which can sometimes be forgotten. (Work in progress) Hope you enjoy. Mister A
